The Long Division app has been featured by Apple in "New & Noteworthy", "Math - Numbers & Operations", and in "Math Apps for Middle School". Educational App Review (iear.org): "This app is fantastic!!"

The Long Division app can be used to teach and study the long division method. Solving long division problems is also excellent subtraction and times tables practice. The app is easy to use and it has an intuitive interface with customizable colors and other settings. The user can solve custom and random division problems with small and large numbers.

Educational App Review (iear.org): Purpose, program functionality and overall educational value are all rated A.

R. Zeni, Ecole Sandy Hill Elementary, Abbotsford, BC, Canada:

"The Math apps by Esa Helttula allow students to practice and reinforce the specific computation strategies taught in class, with as much or as little scaffolding as necessary. I am so glad to have come across this great educational tool!"

Wired.com:

"The Long Division app is very clear and very useful."

Education Apps Review, www.iear.org:

"This app is fantastic!! My third graders loved learning with this app! It has infinite enriching and differentiating possibilities, as the students can select easier or more challenging types of problems."

PragmaticMom, www.pragmaticmom.com:

"My 5th Grader is learning long division and sometimes working through the problems step by step is confusing to her. So you can imagine how excited I AM with this app, named Long Division, that translates long division into a color coordinated step by step process and has a number key pad so that the student can input their numbers every step of the way. Then, the numbers slide from the problem, into their proper place in the problem. Very visual and memorable!"

AppReviewLive, www.appreviewlive.com:

"It’s almost like having a teacher in the palm of your hand.."

The Long Division Method

In arithmetic, long division is the standard procedure suitable for dividing numbers. The method breaks down a division problem into a series of easier steps.

Easy to Use

The app allows the user to solve a long division problem step by step and animates all the steps. In the steps the user will divide, multiply or subtract. The correct answer will fly to the right place. If the user presses the wrong button the answer will appear above the keyboard but it will not move.

Features:

- The dividend can have 1 - 5 digits
- The divisor can have 1 - 3 digits
- Remainders can be allowed or disallowed
- The dividend and divisor can have decimals and the decimals can have leading zeroes
- The app will place zeros in order to extend the division to the next decimal place, if needed
- The divisor can be bigger than the dividend
- The current operation for each step can be hidden
- The operands for the current operation can be highlighted
- The speed of the animations can be set
- Numbers to divide can be generated randomly or entered manually

Pros and cons of Long Division app for iPhone and iPad

Long Division app good for

Ever have trouble teaching a child to do Long Division? Then this is the app for you. This is the best educational math app out there! All of my students are now very successful with Long Division. I love the flexibility of it. It provides step by step support for those who need it, and as the childs understanding increases, the extra supports can be removed. Awesome! The support of the developer is also awesome. Within days, there was an update to fix a glitch we found. Thank you!
Beautiful, brilliant, intuitive. Walks user gently step-by-step through Long Division. Taught my son what his teachers were unable to do. We are so grateful!
First the good news: it does what it says. It shows the steps that go into Long Division. Now the bad news: you need to know in advance how many decimal places to use. For example, depending on how many decimal places you start with, 20 / 1 = 0.0 R1, or 0.05, or 0.050. These values could confuse a kid with a shaky grasp of decimals. I would prefer it if the app responded more like a calculator. That is, 20 / 1 returns 0.05. I would also like the app to clearly show subtraction operations by showing the minus sign. But thats just me. Overall Im happy with the app and Im going to keep it.
My son is just learning division and multiplication and this is a great utility in helping that process
This app does what it sets out to do - help you study the Long Division method. The animation looks nice. I wish it allowed me to end an exercise earlier if I know for sure my answer is correct.
This app does a great job illustrating Long Division and helping my son practice the skills needed to work through problems!!! Very well done!!!

Some bad moments

I thought you could fill in the blanks and watch the Long Division happen. As it turns out, all you can do is watch it pick random numbers. So I wasted 1.99. I ended up downloading the other Long Division program which is what I needed. And it was only .99 cents..
The app does what it says okay, however it gives you the answer in the form of randomly generated numbers that you pick the right one from rather than figuring it out yourself, which is what a real problem will have you do. And the price is quite steep to me for a one function app. Other apps, such as the ABTC calculator let you perform many functions, break down each step, and are much cheaper.
This app doesnt know how kids are thought today so basically it stinks
